Re: On the back burner, sedan build.
Thanks man. Me and my wife have came up with a few different ideas about what we want to do but I'm going to wait to mention them until tomorrow after we get the quote.

Re: On the back burner, sedan build.
Well my mechanic finally came to his senses. He called ne today in shock of spi prices. He said he talked to a junk yard he usually does buisness with and they told him if I plan on keeping the its ideal to swap in the dohc because the sohc is junk. Not only that the dohc is a dime a dozen cause nobody can sell them cause they just don't go bad. So now he researching what's involved to swap in a zetec. He won't listen to me when I tell him its just engine wire harness and cpu. Because for some reason the junk yard told him that the trans had to be swaped out too. So he won't listen to me, cause I don't know what I'm talking about. Although I told him I wanted a zetec to begain with.

Re: On the back burner, sedan build.
If he won't listen to you, then go get your car from him and do the work yourself. Some say the SPI tranny won't work on a Zetec because the gearing is different but I know for a fact it does work. I have a SPI ATX on my Zetec wagon. Pulled it off the SPI myself and installed it on the Zetec myself.
Also you need a little more than just a harness and PCM. You will need all the acc on the Zetec. (Although I think the SPI and Zetec AC compressors seem to be the same I just need to confirm it) You need the passenger side engine mount. The fuel line from the block to the fire wall, the PS hard lines, the coolant hoses, the harness on the coolant fans, and the keys reprogramed to match the new ECU. Sounds like a lot, but if you know what you need going in, its not that bad.

Re: On the back burner, sedan build.
Really.... that is a lot. The keys really have to be reprogramed? I got a co-worker going to do the swap for me at a flat rate of $500. He has a lift and everything. The regular mechanic wants $800+ not counting oil and antifreeze. Looks like its gonna be a couple days to gather everything up.

Re: On the back burner, sedan build.
It sounds like a lot, but its not. Its a lot of little parts. Still at the price of a SPI you can find a zetec and all the parts for less.
The keys are programed to the ECU, so unless you have the keyes that match the ECU you get yes you have to have them reprogramed. Most of the stuff you need should come with the engine. Just make sure of it when you get it. Your other option, find a wrecked (whatever duratech or zetec) Focus and swap everything into your car.
I'd really ask around some more about getting locals to help you. Your friend isn't charging you alot at $500, but if you were here, I'd do it for beer, food, and hookers.

Only hookers for me, if they are good hookers.
It's hard to find good hookers anymore.

Re: On the back burner, sedan build.
The only problem is all the locals with the exception of one or two all act like they are too good for one another. God for bid I try to set up a ohio meet they are too good to drive 3 or 4 hours to meet up the would rather drive to the local sonic and meet each other. They never go to any meets, unless you are local they dont really talk to you either. All of my close focus friends that would be willing to help me live in indiana, kentucky and wisconsin. In fact I'm working on a Ohio right now and I got people from new york and wisconsin saying that they want to come, not a peep from a single ohioian.

Re: On the back burner, sedan build.
How do I know which ecu to buy? I just looked it up there is three for a standard emission engine, and I don't even know if it's standard emission. lol
I haven't bought the engine yet but the one I want has intake ID WS4E- raised seam runner .

Re: On the back burner, sedan build.
Just got the best deal ever! So I've been holding on on buying a engine util I got a mechanic willing to do it for cheap. I now have one, so I called the place I've been looking at the last week. They have 8 zetecs ranging from $350-$800 not including harness and ecu. Anyways I called for one I saw for $400, it came with a warranty. When I told the guy which engine I was caling about I asked if there is any way he could throw in a harness and ecu as a package deal. I told what I was doing and he said he knew the harness had to match the year of the engine for it all to work. He said the engines don't usually come with alternators or ac either. He asked what year of car I had. Then he told me to hold on. After a min or so he came back and said I just got a complete '02 focus in and then asked how much I have to spend. I told I could easily spend $500. He asked if it was cash or credit, I said cash. He said if you come and pay tomorrow ill give you everything you need for the swap for that. Hells yea! So ill be going tomorrow to see my new engine!! Bow chica bow wow.

Re: On the back burner, sedan build.
Ok got up early this morning to make the hour.5 trip to the parts yard to finally pick up the zetec......
It rained the whole time, luckly I also braught my GPS. Cause his couldn't find the address and mine was already preprogramed.
When we got there they was closed!! Althought I called them twice friday to make sure they was going to be open and the engine would be ready. Luckily the front gate was open and a couple of the guys was there working on a Deloren for the owner who has two of them. So they was more than happy to help us out. I found the engine on the floor. Next to a pile of parts that they let me help myself to. I got the intake/MAF/airbox, negative/postive wires, trans harness, and lower engine cover. How ever because they was unaware of my arrival they engine harness and ecu was still on the car, so I requested them to ship it to me and I am calling tomorrow to make sure they get it to me.
While we was talking to them me and my friend daryl helped or selfs to the Deloren neither of us have ever seen one in person.
Daryl in the car, I'm the second pic. I tell you what I've sat in lots of midengine cars in my life and this was by far the tightest cockpit ever. (thats what she said!)
Once we got the engine in the truck we stopped at mickeyDs for lunch. It was still raining.
Two hours later we was back at my friends house and the focus got to see her new heart for the first time.

To bring this up to date if you haven't seen it on FF or FJ.

Motor is in for now, just need to finish up the plumbing and some wiring. As-well as a few other odds in ends. It'll at least come back out one more time before it's done.
Here's the inside of the damaged cat. We are going to try to use the cat off the SPI just custom fit the two together.
10/11/12
Progress pics.
Got main harness done, A/C connected, steering pump and high pressure line on. thottle body and cable on. alternator and belt on. Most of the exhaust done.
Found out something cool the engine build date is my birthday!
today: 10/12/12
Finished the swap, and got the car off to the dealer to have the key reprogrammed. Just ot find out that possible the starter is bad. Due to lack of money I can't afford to move the car again, and they can't look at it till monday.
I cleaned it briefly, after being in a barn for almost two months.
