Glanced at the clock as my tire caught the inch-ish drop off for the shoulder, before i could correct, it caught the grass and I was done.

Eyeball test says:

- both headlights (hit so hard, the passenger blinker popped right out of the socket)
- grill
- bumper
- side marker
- passenger fender
- hood latch
- core support
- and possible frame tweak

No this is not the reason he won't be online, but it did partly happen because of that reason.

I think it is that bad. It destroyed the passenger side headlight, and the core support is obliterated under there. And it hit right on that corner, so I'm thinking there's likely going to be some frame damage. Honestly, I kinda hope it gets totalled out for Rob. He's upsidedown in that car, and this would allow him to start fresh with another car. I doubt he'd get another Focus, but who knows...maybe he'd find an SVT or 03-04 D23 hatch....or even an ST. As much as it sucks, at least he's OK.

Justin -- if the car gets fixed and not totalled out, he's going to be converting to an 00-04 front end and using my SVT bumper...which has smoked sidemarkers in it. I'm sure Rob appreciates your offer though

Thanks everyone. No, this has nothing to do with why I am going to walk away from the intertoobs for the most part for a little while. This was not completely, but partially caused by those issues, but that's no excuse.

For the most part, you can consider yesterday and today #1 and#2 on the list of worst days of my entire life.

I am hoping it gets totaled, really wish it had just popped the damn bags. I don't know what I'd get if that was the case. I'm tired of the payment and don't need this particular kind of vehicle anymore really.

If it isn't totaled, and I am able to do so without too much hassle, I will be doing a pre-05 swap to the front and trying to pocket a little of the cash. But the way my luck has gone as of late, I'd do that and then get t-boned after leaving the shop with it.

We are all here for you! I have a stock grille and sidemarkers you can borrow.

I've got a lightly damage SVT bumper I wouldn't mind parting with if you go that route. Actually, my dad bought it for my brother's old car (RIP), but when I get another Focus he'll give it to me. Not sure how much he'd want for it. I'd rather stay more stock on mine and just throw a few euro parts on it... when I get one.

but the way the picture looks they look to be ok.... but with that type of damage and how far away the camera is you never know until you see it fo your self plus Rob would be the one to ask and he will not be on much so just wait in time he will be back

yeah i looked under the hood, everything is shifted towards the drivers side pretty bad. Core support is fubar'd, headlight is cracked pretty bad, suspension is clunky pretty bad on the front right, etc.....

Does he have the steel core support? The one in my 2000 was fiberglass and just bolted in. I've seen Focus burn victims in the j/y that were newer and they had steel ones. Wondering if those were welded in... would be a bit harder to fix. And what year did Ford switch from fiberglass to steel?

They are all bolted in, and as far as I know they are all made of steel with a plastic/fiberglass layer over the entire thing

In the Focus, apparently not much.

No not much at all, the core support is there mainly to. Bolt things to, like the headlights, grille, radiator, etc

It's pretty structural in the Fox platform, which, to be honest, is kinda flimsy. Can't say the same for the Ranger. It's got a real frame on it.

Just stopped in to give an update. We got the call yesterday, it's totaled. $5700 was when they stopped counting. No idea at this point what will be replacing it. Right now I am trying to get my hand taken care of and the personal issues I've been having settled. They take presedence over getting another car that I actually want.

yes they are. they were cracked and blacked. and they didn't break because they had been opened up, the clear leans cracked

They're gone Jeff, the insurance company bought em, by that i mean they will not let him take stuff off his car.
