Hey whats up Everyone..... What you think?? Has anyone added a Header to there SPI?? If so I have a COUPLE of Questions....

1) Have you experienced these codes (P0316 / P0300 / P0302 / P0401) and how did you fix the problem??

2) How do you get rid of "Pop , Pop , Pop" Sounds from hitting the pedal ??

3) Do you need to keep the EGR connected together, or can you block both ends off??

Most of those codes would go away if you had the EGR. Also did this delete your cat? If so get a tune from FSwerks.

P0300 - Random Misfire The random misfire DTC indicates multiple cylinders are misfiring or the PCM cannot identify which cylinder is misfiring. Camshaft position sensor (CMP)
Low fuel: less than 1/8 tank
Stuck open EGR valve
Blocked EGR passages
One or more EGR passages may be blocked or partially blocked. If this is the case the Misfire Detection Monitor will indicate the EGR port to check for possible blockage.

P0301 through P0310 - Misfire Detection Monitor The misfire detection monitor is designed to monitor engine misfire and identify the specific cylinder in which the misfire has occurred. Misfire is defined as lack of combustion in a cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel metering, poor compression, or any other cause. Ignition system
Fuel injectors
Running out of fuel
EVAP canister purge valve
Fuel pressure
Evaporative emission system
Base engine
The MIL will blink once per second when a misfire is detected severe enough to cause catalyst damage. If the MIL is on steady state, due to a misfire, this will indicate the threshold for emissions was exceeded and cause the vehicle to fail an inspection and maintenance tailpipe test.

P0401 - EGR Flow Insufficient Detected The EGR system is monitored during steady state driving conditions while the EGR is commanded on. The test fails when the signal from the DPF EGR sensor indicates that EGR flow is less than the desired minimum. Vacuum supply
EGR valve stuck closed
EGR valve leaks vacuum
EGR flow path restricted
EGRVR circuit shorted to PWR
VREF open to D.P.F. EGR sensor
D.P.F. EGR sensor downstream hose off or plugged
EGRVR circuit open to PCM
VPWR open to EGRVR solenoid
D.P.F. EGR sensor hoses both off
D.P.F. EGR sensor hoses reversed
Damaged EGR orifice tube
Damaged EGRVR solenoid
Damaged PCM
Perform KOER self-test and look for DTC P1408 as an indication of a hard fault. If P1408 is not present, look for contamination, restrictions, leaks, and intermittents.

I couldn't find a 316 code.


What I meant by getting a Tune is your car computer is going to control the air fuel mixture differently without the cat. A tune is a flash device that you plug into your OBD II port and download a set program to your car's PCM (ECU). Also with the tune you can turn off the EGR function and then pull the ERG out of the completely and put a block off plate on the intake side.

Hey Thanks NorcalFocus ......

Yeah I had to delete my Cat... and also; your right Shops been telling me I need to see if I can get the EGR Pipe back on, maybe welded or something.. because its still dragging slow when i push the pedal and "popping"... Thanks for the link on the Tune... Im going to look into checking it out.. Did you put a header on your focus, if so did you have the same problem??

No I never put a header on my SPI when I had that engine. I am currently putting a SVT header on my zetec tho.

Do you need the EGR for emissions checks in FL? If not, get the tune and delete that shit.

I have emission checks here in GA but there are no cats or EGR crap on either of mine all the time.... Very Happy

I had the EGR welded back on and my car is still "Poping"... The check engine light came on, and the codes read (P0300 / P0401) ... How do I fix this now?? Its frustrating when you go down the road and you hear.. Pop .. Pop.. Poppop!...

The pop is gotta be the misfire. Check all your plug and wires.

All my plugs and wires are brand new; less than 3 months old.... I just want that shit to stop..

The Coil lPack Is new, and snugged firmly to the spark plugs... I smell fumes coming out of my exhaust .. when I put it in reverse it misfires, driving up to speed it misfires.. and "Pops" also. When In Idle at a light it stutters.

I cant deal with this Shit.. Im putting the stock manifold back on..... my car now shuts of while in drive, idling or putting it in reverse.. Dunno

as norcal said in a roundabout way..easiest way to fix this, swap for a 2L Zetec Laughing

if i had a block lined up for my focus id sell you my zetec hella cheap, but you would have to resolve a light motor tick issue before dropping it in Embarassed
