Jon's New Long Haul Starting in Spring

Post by jholso on 2011-01-07, 2:46 pm

Hai Guys!!!

As some of you know, I haz a Winter beater that is getting me through my Focus Build...

WELL, it has been running very strong lately. And I am more than impressed with it.

I took it through 10-16" of snow a couple weeks ago, did not bother it at all Drove amazing, and had some fun.

I took it out yesterday on some trails to try out the off roading aspect of it...

Took Snow mobile trails like it was nothing.

This has encouraged me to start planning out my build...

It is a 1994 Subaru Loyale Wagon.

It has a 1.8 ltr engine, FWD, with a button to shift into 4wd (can be done on the fly), 5speed

Has 144,000 miles (Low for an old Suby)

GOAL: 1 Bad Ass Trail/Winter Beater

This build will effectively start now, but mainly that’s planning, goes in full swing once the focus is done.

Plans:

Fix Rusted panels by welding in new ones
Spray Bomb Flat Black With Satin Black Wheel Arches
Replace All Brakes (Rear Brake lines were just replaced)
Adaptors to go from 4x140 to 4x108
Mudd/All terrain Tires
3" lift
Rally Lights
Brush Guard
New Headlights that don’t have water in them
Custom 2" Exhaust Header Back (This straight 4 doesn’t have a traditional header)
Safari Basket in Lime Green(Already have)
New Clutch
Change Timing Belt
Change all fluids
Tear out Carpet, Rhino Line the Floor

Anything else I can think of...

Here are some pics to wet your appitie...

This is what the engine Bay looks like....

Off Road Status:
!!!!

These are the wheels I already have 4 of and am buying 4 more.

They will be painted Lime Green and I will be putting tires on 6 of them. To keep 2 spares in the Suby at all times!

Yea, it has surprised me.

Not a ton of power (98hp when New)

But it loves being in first or second in 4WD in the snow/on the trails

Things feels like It was ment to be out there.

When I first started driving it everyday it was kinda sketchy.

Would hit 65 in 5th gear around 4500 RPM's

Now after a couple redlines and a month of daily driving it, I have hit 80 and was still pulling in 5th gear around 4000 rpms.

Car had sat for over a year before I got my hands on it.

Replaced all rear brake lines, battery, and a gas line and poof came to life!

Um well its gonna be a purpose built Wagon, for trails and such since up here in NH we have alot of woods and trails. Also It will be my hunting rig.

By awesomer, do you mean more power?

Well if I finish what Im doing and it is still holding up strong, then I may turbo it or build the motor some. There was a model that came turbo'd so Id just take that stuff put it on, and up the boost.

But thats down the road a bit. I need to fix rust and such first.

As for a 9th wheel...

Well I can probably fit one of the audi wheels in the engine bay (tons of room)

Ill see how it fits as soon...

Yea I plan on selling or something my current focus around 2013 for an ST. Only time will tell for sure, but my dads all for it and stuff.

I will have my low vechicle with the focus, this subaru would not survive being dumped so up it goes

Haha yea, why not start the begining of the next build while Im still doing the first lol

Yea the spare in the engine bay through me off, espcially since its a wagon you would think theres room in the rear.

Oh well it makes it unique

My dad who's does lots of trail off roading uses some BF all weather mud and snow tires. It takes a ton to get them stuck.
