Finally putting my money where my mouth is...

Post by Nliiitend1 on 2010-12-20, 8:12 pm

This stuff will be going on as soon as I can get some time (and hopefully access to my buddy's lift):

A slightly used (pretty much just broken-in) set of Mazdaspeed Accessory Coilovers for the MS3. They are basically KW Variant 3s that are built to the specifications of the Mazdaspeed Motorsports people. Fully re-buildable by KW, for a nominal fee of course.

I also picked up a set of SPC rear camber arms to dial out the negative camber I'll be gaining (and then some, probably). I ordered up new sets of OEM front and rear swaybar endlinks and new rear swaybar bushings as well while I was at it, as my OEM stuff has seen a lot of wear since the OEM dampers took a shit so early in their lives...

Here's a pic of the car in it's winter nastiness mode:

...and another one showing the bike in it's spot (Adrienne had her Fit at work today):

Badass Alex! I'm guessing you're going to set it ~1 inch below stock?

KW V3s have adjustanle damping and rebound, correct?

And the Fusion wheels look pretty funny on the MS3!

V3s have adjustable rebound and adjustable low speed compression damping. The high speed compression damping is fixed.

Ride height is probably going to end up about and inch lower in the front and somewhere between 1/2" and 1" lower in the rear.

And yes, while the Fusion wheels look a bit goofy, they (and the Dunlop Wintersport M3s mounted on them) are a necessary goofiness when living here (this pic was taken tonight):

That's right you live in Shitcago now don't you. No snow yet here, but we're supposed to get 1-2" tonight. Just a nuisance snow.

Those fronts look identical to the set of Vogtland coilovers Ricardo sold me that were supposed to fit my 06 ZX3 but they fit my friend's Mazdaspeed3. The bottom of the strut wouldn't fit into the 06+ knuckle but was a perfect match for the Mazda knuckle.

After final ride height tweaking and alignment (but still filthy):

Aside from my desire to get a quality boost gauge and install it in the pod I've had waiting to go in for over a year (I'm obviously highly motivated to get it done, lol), I'm not really sure what I want to do next.

I might get a bigger rear swaybar and I'd love to get some more front camber (there aren't many good options for me in that department right now), but I'm really happy with the car as it sits now.

I might get the bug for more power after the summer wheels/rubber go on (which I'm thinking is going to require me to finally bust out my fender roller), but this car rips pretty good with what it's got (basically an intake and tune).

I wish I had access to a lift.

I love the MS3 as always! But it looks kinda funky on Fusion wheels.

Re: the lift -

I recently found out my buddy's work (the place where the lift is) is going to be closing that branch, and we're going to lose access to our (the building's) lift. Sad

I'm actually going downstate this weekend to get one last weekend of work in while we still have access (we'll mostly be working on his Focus this time).

I knew it was too good to last...
