Day at the garage

Post by Plasticracer on 2011-02-24, 7:36 pm

So today decided to get a few things done today that needed to be taken care of.

First off was the control arm, (driver side) Been gettin this chattering noise when i hit rough spots on the road or if im driving down a brick road or something. My initial though was the control arm, and i guess i was right cause that noise is gone now after changing it out

New vs old control arm

Moog sway bar links, got these a while back, they're definitely an improvement over stock

Decided to just go ahead on change the oil too, was 200mi shy of needing to change, but figured eh what the heck, might as well do it now.

Then it was on to doing the rear springs.
Eibach vs Koni

With the Eibach on

With the Koni on

After finishing the springs i was debating whether to do the dampners now or wait, so i decided to since we had everything apart, was relatively easy getting the strut out, so im like alright cool this is goin great, take the perch off the stock strut, and went to put it on the Koni.........gr....grrr............gaahhhhh!!!! Mad the hole was too small to fit the shaft I wub you lol but i wasn't particularly happy about that cause the guy i bought the set from said i could use the perches i already have, obviously that isn't the case, and what better time to find out than when im actually in the process... *sigh* so we just went ahead and put the stock dampeners back in, since it couldn't handle the bigger guy

Now mind you this was the ride height just a couple days ago with the Eibach's on

So we went the set the car back down, and im already anticipating it being a lil higher, he lets the jack down, and im lookin at the car like ok ok he's still letting it down, then i see him wheel the jack from underneath, and i see this

And my initial response was like Shocked

So i bend down to get a more leveled look, and see this

Unbelievable like WTH happened man!!! and almost Barf at the sight lol jk But i was like uuuggghhhh man wtf yo!!
So we drove it down on a more level surface cause it was kina on a lil incline a little bit which kina made it look worse than it actually was, but this is how she stands now

....... its gonna take some getting used to for me, im so used to that tucked look on the rear, but i'll be getting some new tires soon and taking that stock wheel off and putting the rim back on since i got that dent on the inside lip fixed, so hopefully with some 215 40 18's that'll close up the gap a bit more and after the springs set in maybe and HOPEFULLY it'll look a little better. But whats starting to worry me now is how that SVT bumper will look now that its sitting so high, and the only thing i've been a little concerned about with that bumper since it doesn't sit as low as the current.

Was at a walgreens a little later and came out and saw this stocker parked next to me, and so i thought what better way to get a good height comparison Smile

Snapped some shots underneath, cover ur churn's eyes lol jk

uhh.... idk, i think it might be a good time to get that tire changed out back there. Im kinda thinking this just might be a reason why i hydroplaned back in November........

Exhaust tip. I've been trying to figure which exhaust this is, thinking could be MBRP, but i think those have that chrome tip over the end, thinking it could possibly be magna flo since there's a magna flo glass pack.... idk Dunno

And i changed these out just a couple of months ago, and im thinking this just might possibly be the reason for all that vibration i had before, yes?

So all in all, was a pretty productive day. Just have to figure out what to do about those perches for the Koni's. Hoping i can just order those.

Omar, I'm fiona have my coils soon. Do you wanna sell those springs and buy my hr race springs and dampers? The rears are good but thr fronts are shot. But the hr race springs will get you down atleast another inch. Let me know. And actually you can have the dampers and just buy the springs.

Laughing you have to drill out the hats to clear the koni shafts! josh and i were having a discussion about this this evening because he needs my old stock hats to put on the new coil over shocks to ship me the skunk2s and konis!

James: Are you talking the whole set, front and rear or just the rear?

Rob: we tried that but the insert just kept spinning when the drill caught it, so then we just decided to put the stockers back on. But idk though, maybe he didn't clamp it hard enough to keep it from spinning.

Front and rear springs are good. The rear dampers are still ok but the fronts are bad.

You have to disassemble it and put each piece in a vice and drill each one out separately

I run 225/35's on my 18's on coilovers. You'd be fine on just springs.
